Tempered Glass
Tempered safety glass is a special type of glass that, upon impact, breaks into small and non-sharp pieces. This type of glass is used in various applications such as glass railings, glass doors, shower cabins, partitions, glass furniture, urban furniture, refrigerator and oven doors, solar collector glass, and the side and rear windows of automobiles.
The tempering process involves heating and cooling stages to impart compressive stress to the outer surfaces of the glass and indirect tensile stress to the center of the glass. This process enhances the glass's durability and resistance to thermal stress without altering its volume, chemical composition, color, or clarity.
Compared to untreated flat glass, tempered safety glass is approximately 5 times more resistant to impacts. Additionally, its ability to break into small, non-sharp pieces upon breakage makes it suitable for use as safety glass, reducing the risk of injuries.
